Ghanaian singer King Promise, known privately as Gregory Bortey Newman, has ignited a heated debate online after boldly claiming that Lagos is bigger than the entire Ghana.
In a viral October 20, 2025 video with popular Nigerian streamer Peller, the “Terminator” hitmaker said:
“The whole of Ghana is not bigger than Lagos. Lagos is bigger than the whole of Ghana. Ghana is 24 million people.”
His statement quickly went viral, triggering massive reactions on X (formerly Twitter). Many Ghanaians disputed his claims, citing statistics that prove otherwise:
- Ghana’s total land area: 238,533 square kilometers
- Lagos State’s land area: 3,345 square kilometers
- Ghana’s population: 34.1 million
- Lagos’s estimated population: 17–21 million
Critics argue that King Promise’s comment was inaccurate, while others defended him, noting that Lagos’s GDP ($102 billion) surpasses Ghana’s national GDP ($76 billion) — showing the city’s economic might in Africa.
The viral video has once again fueled the ongoing rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria over music, economy, and influence across the continent.
