BREAKING: Maame Tiwaa of Yaw Sarpong’s Asomafo Group Confirmed Dead

Veteran gospel singer Maame Tiwaa — best known for her soulful vocals with Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo band — has reportedly passed away on the morning of Sunday, 7 December 2025.

Over decades, Tiwaa’s voice helped shape some of Ghana’s most enduring gospel songs, bringing hope and spiritual comfort to countless listeners. Songs she lent her voice to include classics such as Wo Haw Ne Sεn, El Shaddai, Tenabea Foforo, Honhom Kronkro, among others — tracks that remain a staple in churches and homes across Ghana.

Her contribution was not only musical — many admired her humility, devotion, and long-standing commitment to gospel ministry. In recent times, she had accepted awards on behalf of the Asomafo band and continued performing, despite tributes and challenges around the group’s frontman.

Tributes have begun pouring in from fellow musicians, fans, and church communities, all mourning the loss of a voice that touched generations. The gospel industry — and Ghana as a whole — has lost one of its golden voices.
